When it’s 25 (or is it 6?) to 4am, is it late? Or is it early? I never could figure out the correct answer.
Regardless, I can’t remember the last time I went out on a worknight and stayed out this late/early. It probably wasn’t a worknight, but a schoolnight.
Over the past 5 hours, I was absolutely blessed to talk about everything under the sun with the Captain himself. We talked growing up, getting married, families, music, Jesus, theology. We talked about how both of us married way over our heads. I got to hear a bunch of war stories, which were as fascinating as you could imagine. And I somehow navigated my way out of his in-laws’ neighborhood without GPS or a map, which I’m pretty proud of.
Nate heads back to the base on Friday. Two weeks later he’ll be in Kuwait. Two weeks after that, it’s back to Iraq. Then 12 months later, he needs to get his ass home to his beautiful bride. (She’s something else, brother. You done good. You are blessed. And the next bar night is on me. I can’t believe I didn’t think to pick up your tab.)
Nate will continue to blog at http://gishow.blogspot.com. You should be reading, especially if you aren’t following any other soldiers and their reports of what is going on half a world away. The stories must be told. We cannot forget our soldiers.
