My Milacron healthcare plan expires January 31 due to my not working for them any longer. My new company healthcare plan doesn’t kick in until March 1. I could buy an extra month of my Milacron plan via COBRA for $1100, or just roll the dice and hope for no many injuries or the onset terminal illness in the month of February.
So, naturally, Aimee has been awake 15 times since bedtime and she is clearly sick. And since it is the weekend, we can’t get her to the pediatrician. And Monday is a new month, which means no coverage.
It’s really not a big deal, just another one of those things.
One doc visit, even with medication, is generally a LOT less than $1,100. lol I say, roll the dice.
Have you looked into Ohio’s SCHIP plan?
rolling the dice = putting your family’s financial future on the line in the case of a major problem in the next month. dunno. guess it’s easy to be flip if you’ve not had any major health issues or catastrophes.
I have until April 1 to send in my COBRA check, coverage effective February 1. If something catastrophic happened, I mail the check, no questions asked.
If we need to do a sick visit this month, it’ll cost us a lot more, but certainly not $1100. So we’ll roll the dice, knowing that we can effectively buy COBRA after the fact if it would be financially beneficial.
We’re fine.
